Ingredients
For the Pie Crust:
- 2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 6–8 tablespoons ice water
For the Apple Filling:
- 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith preferred)
- ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter
Making Process – Step-by-Step
Step 1: Preparing the Pie Dough
Begin by mixing flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Add the cold butter cubes and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the texture becomes crumbly. Slowly add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. This helps make the crust flaky.
Step 2: Preparing the Apple Filling
Place the sliced apples into a large bowl. Add sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix everything well until the apples are fully coated. This mixture will create the sweet and spiced filling.
Step 3: Assembling the Pie
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface. Place it into a pie dish and press gently. Add the apple filling inside and spread evenly. Add small pieces of butter on top. Cover with the second rolled dough and seal the edges.
Step 4: Baking the Pie
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the pie for 45–50 minutes until the crust becomes golden brown. Allow it to cool before serving. Serve warm for best taste.
